Daman Police Conducts Public Awareness Drives to Mark One Year of New Criminal

Daman, July 1, 2025:
On the completion of one year since the implementation of the new criminal laws in India –
Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya
Adhiniyam-Daman Police conducted a series of public awareness programmes across all
police stations in the district.
These outreach initiatives aimed to educate citizens about their rights and the key reforms
brought in by the new criminal justice framework, with special focus on:
Rights of the complainant and victim under the new laws
⚫ Timelines for investigation and improved accountability
- Provisions for Zero FIR and eFIR to make reporting easier and more accessible
- Women and child friendly provisions
⚫ Rights of undertrial prisoners, ensuring humane and fair treatment
⚫ Tougher provisions against habitual and absconding criminals, including trial in
absentia
The public awareness programmes were conducted at the following locations:
- Kachigam Police Station
DIA Hall, Somnath - CPS Moti Daman
Patlara Panchayat - Dabhel Police Station
Dabhel Panchayat, Dabhel - Nani Daman Police Station
Dunetha Panchayat - CPS Kadaiya
Government School, Bhimpare
During these programmes, approximately 450-500 individuals attended, police officers
interacted directly with the public shared printed materials, conducted awareness talks, and
resolved queries related to the new procedures. The goal was to build public confidence in the
reformed system and promote transparency and efficiency in policing.
