The Administrator of the Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu is satisfied
that in view of the General Election to Lok Sabha, 2024 scheduled on 07/05/2024
(Tuesday) and counting of votes on 04/06/2024 (Tuesday), it is necessary in the public
interest to curtail the sale of liquor and therefore in exercise of the powers vested in him
under Sub-Rule (4) of Rule 111 of the Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu
Excise Duty Rules, 2020, the Administrator hereby directs that all the Liquor
Manufacturing Establishments/Distilleries/Breweries and all Wine shops, Bar &
Restaurants, Hotels selling/serving liquor etc., throughout the Union Territory of the
Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu shall remain closed on the following
days as mentioned below:
- Before Polling Day: i.e.
a. From 06:00 p.m. onwards on 05th May 2024
b. 06th May 2024 - Polling Day:
c. 07th May 2024
d. Upto 09:00 a.m. on 08th May 2024 - Counting Day:
e. 04th June 2024

ORDER
The General Elections to the Lok Sabha -2024 for Palghar Parliamentary Constituency
of Maharashtra State are being held on 20/05/2024(Monday). In this regard, your attention is
invited to section 135B of the Representation of People Act, 1951 which provides for the grant
of paid holidays to the employees on the day of poll.
As per the provisions of section 135B of the Representation of People Act, 1951 all the
electors who are employees of Government Offices, Semi- Government Offices, Local Bodies,
Public Sector, Establishments and Shops including those which work on shift basis shall be
granted a paid holiday on the day of poll in the Constituency where the General Election is to be
held. Further, there may be case where a person is ordinarily resident of the Constituency and
registered as an elector, may be serving/ employed in an industrial undertaking or an
establishment located outside the Constituency having a general/bye election. It is clarified that
in such a situation, even those electors including casual workers working outside the
constituency concerned would be entitled to the benefit of a paid holiday extended under the
Section 135B(1) of R.P. Act, 1951. 4. The daily wage/casual workers are also entitled for a
holiday and wages on poll day as provided in Section 135B of R.P. Act, 1951.
All the employers of commercial establishments, business, trade, industrial undertaking
or any other establishments are directed to abide by the provisions of section 135B of the
Representation of People Act, 1951. If any employer contravenes with the provision mentioned
above, then such employers shall be punishable as per the provisions of Section 135B of
Representation of the people Act, 1951.
